  • How Often Should I Feed My Garden

Feeding your garden is different to feeding your lawn, gardens vary so much more. Depending on your soil type, amount of sun, type of plants, plant maturity you may have to fertilise very regularly, say every month, or only every six months. Bigger plants do need more food, it’s that simple.

Different plants do require different types of fertilisers, some plants are very hungry for specific trace elements and may need their own specific fertiliser. Azaleas for example require regular doses of acidic fertiliser.

Spray on fertilisers like seaweed & fish-based products are easy to use but you'll need to use these regular to get the same results that you do from organic & slow-release chemical fertilisers.

Of course, early spring is the most essential time of year to fertilise.

  • When Should I Prune

Pruning is best done towards the end of autumn & leading into winter, especially for deciduous trees & plants. Fruit trees require very specific pruning if you're after maximum fruit especially citrus, figs & stone fruit trees. Passionfruit, grape vines & roses for example require vigorous pruning for best results.

  • Veggie Gardens

Veggie gardens are great for families, they are a great way to get kids interested in the outdoors and gardening in general. It's healthy work looking after them and they give you healthy foods to take to your table in return.

Veggie gardens do however need careful planning to make life easier for you and to give the best results. Sun & drainage are two of the most important aspects to consider when planning a new garden and what to grow in it.

  • Decorative finishes

At MG we loooove pebbles & mulches. They always give your garden a fantastic visual lift, reducing the need to water and vastly reduce weed growth when combined with a properly installed weed mat.

Large river pebbles, crushed limestone, Gold Cowra pebbles, redwood chip mulch, all of these, and many more look great and really make your garden pop. Plus, when you've got the terrific looking garden finishes you don’t need to overfill your garden with plants as the finishes themselves look so good.

  • White Oil

MG uses organic methods whenever possible to control weeds & inspect pests. One of our favourites is white oil. Using some simple household ingredients, it’s a great way to control insect pests that is harmless to us and our pets. You can eat fruit from a fig tree that you just sprayed with no ill effects whatsoever - now that's organic.
